Jan 18, 2018

With just one month to go until the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games kick off in North Battleford, we're putting the spotlight on Figure Skating with Team Saskatoon's Esther Ha!

Name: Esther Ha

Sport: Figure Skating

Years competing in figure skating: 6

What’s your favourite part about competing and participating in your sport?
I love the feeling of my edges just gliding across the ice, it makes me feel free. Competing allows me to push myself harder and I like the challenge of it.

What’s something people might not know about figure skating?
One of the most important things in figure skating is having a strong mind. This sport is challenging as it pushes you physically, mentally and artistically. Figure skaters have to have the determination to push through the jumps and spins making it look effortless for the judges and the audience.

What are you most looking forward to about the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games?
I am excited about the experience not just in my competition, but seeing other athletes participating in other sports and enjoying myself in a different atmosphere.

What are your goals for the Games?
My goals for the Games are to achieve a personal best score and perform a great program where I show more of my skating skills. I hope to perform a great program that I will be truly satisfied with.

Who’s your personal hero?
Yuna Kim. Even though she has retired from skating now, she is still my role model. In fact, she is actually the one that inspired me to start figure skating. Just watching her flawless skating had me mesmerized.

You can catch Figure Skating at the North Battleford Civic Centre from February 21-24th.
