Sport Spotlight: Jacob Sebastian - Snowboarding
Feb 13, 2018

There are only 5 days to go now until the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games! Today's #SportSpotlight is on Snowboarding, featuring Jacob Sebastian from Team South East.

Name: Jacob Sebastian

Sport: Snowboarding

Years competing: I've been snowboarding for about 5 years.

How did you get your start in the sport?
I watched the snowboarding competitions in the X Games and decided I wanted to try it.

What’s your favourite part about competing and participating in your sport?
My favourite thing is being pushed to try new tricks.

What’s something people might not know about snowboarding?
Snowboarding training can be done all year. I train and practice tricks on trampolines when I can't get on the snow.

Is this your first time at a Saskatchewan Games?
Yes, but my brother was at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Moose Jaw. He competed in snowboarding too.

What are you most looking forward to about the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games?
Meeting new people and trying new things.

What are your goals for the Games?
Just to do my best, and hopefully win a medal.

What are your goals for your snowboarding career?
I would like to become a professional snowboarder one day.

Who is your personal hero?
Mark McMorris -- he is very inspiring to me. He won an Olympic medal after almost dying in a snowboard accident. I recently broke my collarbone and had to get surgery to fix it, and seeing what Mark has accomplished, I am very motivated to compete at the Saskatchewan Winter Games and do my best.

Snowboarding is going down at Table Mountain Regional Park from February 21st - 24th!
