The Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division and the Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games Committee are pleased to announce that the School Division will be a supporting partner of the new Track and Field Facility that is currently under construction. This support will be in the form of $25,000 payable over the next five years.
Co-Chair of the Friends of the Games Committee, Kelly McConnell spoke this partnership. “Prior to beginning construction of the new facility, we sat down with all the partners this project may impact. Holy Family spoke of their interest to support the project at that time, and today we are excited to formally announce their partnership.”
Present at the announcement from the Holy Family Catholic Separate School Division were Bev Hickie and Karen Melle. Hickie and Melle as representatives of the Board spoke to the positive nature of this project. “We see this facility as very positive legacy of the 2016 Summer Games, which will last for generations to come. It will not only be a benefit to the students of our school division, but to the community as a whole.”
The construction of the Track and Field Facility, which located on the grounds of the Estevan Comprehensive School, began in the spring of 2014. Most of the major construction, including asphalt was completed before the snow fell. The project will continue in the spring with the application of the rubberized running surface and the building of the storage buildings and grandstands. Currently, the facility has been jointly funded by the City of Estevan, RM of Estevan, Southeast Cornerstone School Division, private sponsors and now the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division. The Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games Committee is still in the process of fundraising and looking for sponsors for this facility, with numerous naming right packages still available.
About the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division:
The amalgamation of Estevan Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 27, Weyburn Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 84 and St. Olivier Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 12 took place effective January 1, 2004 to form the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division # 140.
The voluntary amalgamation came about after several years of sharing professional and educational services among the three School Divisions. The three former School Divisions were similar in many aspects, the main and strongest similarity being the education of students within the Catholic faith dimension.
The School Divisions felt this could be protected and enhanced by amalgamating and forming one larger School Division.
