The Estevan Police Service goals include enhancing our relationship with youth in our community as well as the promotion of a healthy, active lifestyle for all citizens.  The inaugural run, in support of those goals, featured a half marathon run, a half marathon walk, as well as a three person relay team event. The proceeds from the 2015 Run and the Open House will be utilized in enabling youth in our community to attend the Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games.

“The Games will be a major event in our community this year”, stated Estevan City Police Chief, Paul Ladouceur. “We feel all youth should have the opportunity to attend.  The Games will showcase youth that have a love and passion for sport and will serve to be an inspiration to all.  With these tickets, youth attendees will be able to mix the opportunity to watch sports with the numerous cultural activities occurring during the Games.  The Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games volunteers were of valuable assistance to us with organizing, promoting, and assisting with these events.”

At today’s announcement, Terina Shaw, organizer of the inaugural Run, and Chief Ladouceur presented a cheque to Nicole Clow, Estevan 2016 Games Manager.  “We are very excited to announce that a total of $4,000 was raised from these events.”  We had tremendous support from local citizens and businesses.  I was very pleased with how the events were perceived by all of those involved. I was grateful for the support of those volunteers that are on the Estevan 2016 committee.  They were very valuable to making these events happen.  Now I am so excited that we will be able to assist youth experience a multi-sport event and watch amazing athletes from across the province compete in their home town. “

Clow added “As a committee, fostering a positive healthy lifestyle is at the heart of our values.  Partnering with the Estevan City Police was a great fit for us.  We were honoured that they feel strongly enough that our local youth will benefit from attending the Games to use their proceeds to purchase these tickets.  We know that there will be exciting competition that people of all ages will enjoy. “
