Cenovus Energy Ready to Energize the Community as Ceremonies Sponsor for the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster

Lloydminster, SK (May 29, 2024) — The 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster Host Society is thrilled to welcome Cenovus Energy as its exclusive Ceremonies Sponsor. The partnership marks a major milestone in the leadup to the provincial multi-sport event, taking place in the Border City from July 21st through 27th.

Whether it’s the electric anticipation in the air during the Opening Ceremony or the proud sense of achievement at the Closing Ceremony, these events will put on full display the connection, camaraderie and unbelievable energy that only the Games can bring. We are so grateful to Cenovus and their commitment to energizing the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster,” said 2024 Games Co-Chairs Wendy Plandowski and Aaron Rawlake.

Much like the Olympics, the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster will begin and end with an Opening and Closing Ceremony on July 21st and 27th, respectively. These exciting events will bring together the nearly 1,000 athletes participating in each half of the Games, along with their cheering friends and family, to celebrate their accomplishments and all the memories made along the way. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will feature a variety of entertainers, dignitary addresses, and ceremonial traditions, including the final leg of the Torch Relay, the lighting of the Games cauldron, and the presentation of various awards to conclude the Games.

Cenovus is also set to sponsor a Signature Event on Wednesday, July 24th, that will feature free music, food and other fun activities for Games participants, visitors to Lloydminster, volunteers and community members to enjoy. Additional details will be announced in the coming months.

We look forward to experiencing the distinct tradition of the Games and ceremonies and feeling the collective spirit throughout the Lloydminster community.”

The 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster will see competition among upwards of 1,800 participants from across Saskatchewan in 14 different sports. These include Archery, Athletics, Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Canoe Kayak, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Special Olympics - Bocce, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon, and Volleyball. Athlete tryouts and qualifying events are now taking place across the province.

More than 1,000 community volunteers will be recruited to help stage the Games and showcase Lloydminster to the entire province. The volunteer drive is currently underway, and interested residents can learn more and register to volunteer at saskgames.ca/volunteer.

From July 21-27, 2024, more than 1,800 athletes, coaches, and officials will gather in the Border City to share in the thrill of competition and camaraderie on the provincial stage. Upwards of 1,000 community volunteers will be recruited to help welcome thousands of visitors to Lloydminster during the seven days of Games competition, in addition to the dozens of dedicated Host Society volunteer leads in charge of planning the multi-sport event. Athletes will represent the 9 Sport, Culture and Recreation Districts across the province, and will compete in 14 different sports.
