One month to go until the 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Flying Dust First Nation-Meadow Lake

Hundreds of volunteers are now being recruited to help support the Games, taking place from February 15-21

MEADOW LAKE, SK (January 15, 2026) - In just one month, thousands of athletes, coaches, managers, and volunteers will gather in Flying Dust First Nation and the City of Meadow Lake to take part in the 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

This will mark the first time in the biennial multi-sport event program’s 54-year history that a city and First Nation have partnered in hosting the event. The 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Meadow Lake-Flying Dust First Nation will take place on Treaty 6 Territory from February 15-21, 2026.

The Games will see participation from up to 1,600 young athletes from every corner of the province competing in 16 different sports. The weeklong event will include competitions in Artistic Swimming, Badminton, Biathlon, Bowling (5 Pin and Special Olympics), Cross Country and Para Nordic Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Futsal, Gymnastics, Judo, Speed Skating, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Ringette, which last featured at the 1998 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Nipawin.

The competition schedule (subject to change) is now live for viewing. Spectator passes for the Games are now available for purchase online and can also be purchased at sport venues throughout the Games, along with day passes, available onsite only.

The volunteer-led Host Organizing Committee is working on its final preparations to welcome thousands of visitors to the neighbouring communities next month, with volunteer recruitment a key focus in the weeks leading up to the Games.

The Games will require hundreds of local volunteers to support all aspects of the event. Volunteers are needed in a wide variety of areas, ranging from venue operations and athlete services to ticket sales, transportation, medical services, sport events, and more. No previous Games experience is required, and training will be provided. Interested residents can register to volunteer today at saskgames.ca/winter/volunteers.

The Saskatchewan Games are made possible through the collaboration and contributions of many different partners, including the Saskatchewan Games Council and its funding partners Sask Milk, Sask Sport Inc. and Sask Lotteries; the volunteer Host Organizing Committee; the provincial Districts for Sport, Culture and Recreation; the Provincial Sport Organizations; local sponsors within each host community; and more.
