Sask Games Alumni Finalists for 2015 Sask Sport Awards

Sask Sport Inc. has announced finalists for the different categories of the 2015 Saskatchewan Sport Awards. The Saskatchewan Games Council is pleased to recognize numerous names on the finalist list. Congratulations to all on your nominations, and good luck!

2015 Youth-Male Athlete of the Year Finalists:

Graeme Fish - 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games - Speed Skating

  • Won silver in the 5000m and bronze in the team pursuit event at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
  • Finished in 12th place in the 5000 m at the World Cup Trials in October, qualifying for the next World Cup Selection Event.
  • Won silver in the 3000m and bronze in the 5000m at the Can Am International, with ten provinces and three countries competing. 

Kayden Johnson - 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games - Athletics

  • Finished in fifth place in the Junior Men’s Decathlon at the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships.
  • Set a Saskatchewan Athletics’ Junior Men’s Native Record for Decathlon and was ranked third in Canada for the Junior Men’s Outdoor Decathlon.
  • Set a Saskatchewan Athletics’ Junior Men’s Native/Open Indoor record and was ranked second in Canada for the Junior Men’s Indoor Pentathlon.
  • Earned silver in the Junior Men’s Decathlon at the Canadian Junior Combined Event Championships. 

Carson Perkins - 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games - Baseball 

  • Member of Baseball Canada Cup National Championships Silver medal winning team. Recorded a save in order for Team Saskatchewan to have a perfect 5-0 record in pool play. Pitched a complete game in the semi-final 4-3 win over Team Ontario to advance Team Sask to the gold medal game.
  • Named the Most Valuable Player of the Toronto Blue Jays – Tournament 12 event and was selected by Toronto Blue Jays scouting to represent Team Prairies. The team won the tournament, and Perkins was the winning pitcher in games against Team Atlantic and Team Ontario.
  • Invited to play with Team Canada at a fall competition in Florida and pitched two scoreless innings against the Atlanta Braves’ Fall Instructional team. 

 

2015 Male of the Year Finalists

Lucas Morin - 2008 Saskatchewan Summer Games - Soccer; 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games - Speed Skating

  • Overall male champion and most decorated Saskatchewan athlete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games
  • Won a gold medal in the 1500m against 30 skaters; won silver in the 500m and won the bronze in the 5000m and team pursuit at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
  • Won a bronze medal out of 50 skaters in the 1000m at the 2015 Oval Invitational.
  • Placed eighth among 70 skaters in the 1500m at the Can Am International.
