Summer Games Streamlines Criminal Record Check Process

The Summer Games Committee has adjusted the Criminal Record Check process, which is being viewed by many as a barrier to being involved in the Games. In an effort to find the correct balance between athlete safety and stream lining the volunteer process, the committee has reviewed and changed which volunteers require a Criminal Record Check.  These are listed below:

Criminal Record Checks ARE required for:
Athlete Services Ceremonies & Protocol Logistics
Athlete Entertainment Torch Relay Bus Driver
Information Centre Marketing & Promotions Security in Athlete’s Village
Medical Services Admissions Food Services
Turn around day (Wed. Aug. 1) Souvenirs Concessions

In addition, Criminal Record Checks completed after January 1, 2011, for another purpose, will now be accepted (originals or copies to be submitted to the Games Office).

The Games Committee would like people to be aware that a significant number of individuals with record checks are required to successfully host the Games and encourage as many people as possible to complete the record check process. The Games Committee would also like to thank the many volunteers who have already completed the process, allowing the ability to schedule these individuals in a variety of areas.
